The Feminization of Poverty

Too often women forgo their own needs (health care, education, retirement, etc.) to provide for children and elders in their family.

Women are poorer than men in all racial and ethnic groups.

Women are more likely than men to bear the costs of raising children. Custodial mothers are twice as likely to be poor as custodial fathers.

The gap in poverty rates between men and women is wider in America than anywhere else in the Western world.
