YWCA Young Leaders Board School
Supply Drive Brings in Nearly $3,600 in Donations
August 29, 2008
The
Young Leaders Board of the YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas is proud
to announce that it raised $3,577.79 in in-kind and cash
donations through its inaugural Back-To-School Supply Drive. The
event benefited the children of the YWCA After School Club.
The YWCA Young
Leaders Board originally set a goal of $1,000 to provide school
supplies for the YWCA After school Club in Irving, but the
wonderful outpouring of donations allowed the group to provide
every school-age child with a backpack filled with all of their
required supplies for the school year. They were also able to
purchase needed supplies for the YWCA After School Club
programs.
School supplies were delivered to students prior to the tax-free
weekend, when many parents seek out school supply deals. The
YWCA Young Leaders Board plans to make this project an annual
charitable event and hopes to bring in even more in donations
next year.
“We were overwhelmed with the community’s generosity in helping
these children start the school year off right,” said Barbara
Mosacchio, CEO of the YWCA. “For many of them, it will be the
first time they start the school year off with a brand new
backpack of their own.”
The YWCA of
Metropolitan Dallas’ purpose is to improve women’s lives and
remove barriers to self-sufficiency. The YWCA celebrates 100
years of serving women in the Dallas community in 2008. The YWCA
is a partnering agency of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.
