Who can volunteer for YW?

YW volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, groups, organizations, and companies. YW volunteering is open to women and men 18 years of age and older; all YW volunteers must undergo criminal background and reference checks and Volunteer Orientation prior to placement.

What will I do as a YW volunteer?

YW will match your skills and interests to opportunities that are meaningful and energizing for you. YW needs volunteers in a variety of areas who can donate their time and expertise to empower women. Bilingual volunteers are particularly needed.

What do you like to do?

Small Business Guest Speakers
Share your expertise with women starting or growing their small business. Experts are needed in areas including financial management, law, marketing research, personal development skills and hiring practices. Each guest speaking engagement is between 45 and 60 minutes. Opportunities are available daytime, evening and weekend hours.

Coaches & Mentors
Volunteers looking to work one-on-one with YW members (clients) have an opportunity to become a business mentor or financial coach. Coaches help YW members work towards their financial or small business goal by providing knowledge, encouragement and accountability. Coaching and mentoring sessions take place at the YW Women’s Center at Ebby’s Place and are offered daytime, evening and weekend hours. Training is provided on the YW coaching/mentoring model prior to connecting volunteers with YW members.

Skill Development Workshops
Volunteers are needed to provide one-time skill workshops on a variety of topics to help members build personal and/or professional skills. Volunteers are needed to teach public speaking, resume writing, and job search techniques. For those looking to grow professionally, YW seeks experts to teach topics such as business tax workshops, computer skills, and communication in the workplace. Workshops range between 60-90 minutes and are held during evening and weekend hours. Workshops can be led by an individual instructor or a panel of successful business professionals.

Financial Education Workshop Leaders
Volunteers are needed to facilitate the 12-hour YW Financial Education Workshop Series, and 90-minute Continuing Education and Tax Credit Education classes. Workshops are held at the YW Women’s Center as well as in the community on weekdays, weeknights and Saturday mornings. Volunteers choose a location and time that works with their personal schedule. Volunteers are provided with training and class materials.

Community Outreach
Groups are needed to provide outreach within YW’s new neighborhood and targeted communities. With support from YW Volunteer Coordinators, these groups attend community events, market YW programming and recruit members or volunteers to get involved at YW. Training is provided.

Administrative Assistance
General office and administrative volunteers are needed to assist with filing, assembling training materials and data management. Those looking to interact with YW members assist with greeting and intake, follow-up calls and appointment reminders. All volunteers receive training on their specific roles and are provided individual work stations.
