Make
an impact in the lives of Dallas women and their families!
Opportunities are
available for individuals, groups and companies to volunteer.
There are many opportunities to get involved. Whether you have a
few hours a month or a few hours a week to give, we have
opportunities for you to make a difference!
- Weekday,
weeknights or on Saturday mornings at YWCA programs
throughout Dallas County
- During normal business hours
in our administrative offices
- One-day
community events
What do you like to do?
Facilitate group classes
Volunteers are needed to teach YWCA Financial Empowerment
classes to individuals who want to learn the basics of money
management. Classes are typically held on 1-2 evenings a week
for 6-8 weeks. Some classes are provided on Saturdays. No
specific expertise is required, but a background in finance is
helpful. All curriculum and training
provided.
Be a cheerful voice on the phone
Bilingual volunteers are needed to conduct phone screenings with
applicants that are interested in a free mammogram. This
opportunity is conducted in our Dallas office and offers
flexible hours. Volunteers can work according to their
availability anytime Monday-Friday, 8
a.m.-5 p.m.
Welcome women
Bilingual volunteers are needed to greet women and complete
intake paperwork prior to their scheduled mammogram screenings.
Screenings are held Monday through Saturday in varying locations
throughout Dallas County. You will greet women, show them how to
complete simple paperwork and consent forms, play a short
educational video and in general help them feel more
comfortable.
Spread the word
Volunteers are needed to help get the word out about our
programs and services. Use your existing contacts, distribute
fliers and posters or talk with retailers or service providers
in a neighborhood community.
Plan, coordinate and talk about the YWCA
Use your planning skills to help coordinate community and
fund-raising events to raise awareness of YWCA programs and
results. Events are scheduled throughout the year.
Helpful hands
Volunteer your time in our offices. We always need help with
mail-outs and other general office duties. Office hours are
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. |
What kind of
difference will you make?
We know that the
services and programs we provide change lives! We see the
results and you will too.
- 92% of our
clients who participate in YWCA Financial Empowerment
program classes report an increase in their savings or a
reduction in their debt.
- 79% of
clients are now following a budget and even more are
teaching these savings habits to their own children.
- In 2007, more
than 1600 uninsured, low-income women received free
mammograms through YWCA Women’s Health. Additionally, 344
diagnostic tests were provided through the YWCA in response
to abnormal results.
- 340 young
parents were taught parenting, family dynamics and basic
life skills through the YWCA Young Parent Program last year.
- Young women
are choosing to finish school, find steady employment, and
manage their own households through the support system and
case management of the YWCA.
With the help of
volunteers in our offices, at community events, and in the
various classrooms, we are able to add more classes, give more
individual support and guidance and impact more women! |
