Living in poverty means making difficult choices everyday. Choices like food or gasoline. Daycare or the doctor. Utilities or health insurance. Clearly these difficult choices have a ripple effect within the family and throughout our community. June 23rd: YW Receives Support from United Way of Metropolitan Dallas

YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of $450,000 in grant funding from United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ 2011-12 Community Impact Grant Fund and Citi Fund for Financial Education for its YW Financial Empowerment and YW Women’s Health programs. YW Financial Empowerment received $225,000 from UWMD’s Community Impact Grant Fund, and $100,000 from the Citi Fund for Financial Education Special Projects Fund (a fund whose recipients are selected annually by a panel of Citi employees). YW Women’s Health received $125,000 from UWMD’s Community Impact Fund.
April 11th: YW Awarded Grant from The North Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

YW announced today that it has received a $44,446 grant from The North Texas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. YW Women's Health is a program offering free mammograms and diagnostic screenings for underserved women in the community who do not have easy access to care. For over 15 years, the YW Women's Health program has empowered women to follow through with breast-health care by overcoming barriers created by a lack of insurance and transportation, and limited English proficiency. This grant connects YW with other dynamic agencies in the area striving to serve women in need.
February 14th: YW Receives Support from CVS Caremark Charitable Trust

YW announced that they received a $50,000 grant from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust to support YW Women’s Health – a program offering free mammograms and diagnostic screenings for underserved women in our community who do not have easy access to care. CVS Caremark Charitable Trusts is the private foundation created by CVS Caremark Corporation, whose mission is to provide funding for health care, education and community involvement initiatives in CVS Caremark communities. YW is one of seventy-two organizations selected from a pool of 660 applicants to receive a grant for 2011, and the only grantee in north Texas.

YW Launches New Resource to Help Build Financial Security for Local Dallas Families

On Wednesday, January 19th, YW in partnership with Citi announced YW’s new financial tool – the YW Self-Sufficiency Calculator, which matches hard-working Dallas families with the appropriate benefits to mend their current financial gaps while they work toward financial independence. The YW Self-Sufficiency Calculator is a part of YW Financial Empowerment – a proven asset-building initiative that equips participants with the necessary skills to make the right financial choices, propelling them one step closer to financial freedom. Mayor Tom Leppert voiced his strong support of YW’s innovative new tool: “YW programs change lives. I am excited that Dallas is the first city in Texas to have a tool like this. This could become a model for other cities hoping to improve the quality of life for low income families.”
